Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has emphatically returned to the win column, securing a unanimous decision victory over the formidable Joaquin Buckley in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Atlanta on Saturday, June 15, 2025. The win marks a crucial turning point for "The Nigerian Nightmare," who snapped a three-fight losing skid.

The judges scored the bout 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47 in favor of Usman, reflecting a masterful performance that showcased his trademark wrestling and grappling prowess. From the opening round, Usman asserted his dominance, repeatedly taking Buckley to the mat and controlling the fight on the ground.

Coming into the fight, Usman was on the first losing streak of his storied career, having lost his title to Leon Edwards and subsequently failing to recapture it in a rematch, followed by a loss to Khamzat Chimaev. This string of defeats had led to questions about the 38-year-old's future in the highly competitive welterweight division.

However, Usman silenced his critics with a vintage performance. Despite a spirited effort from Buckley, who was riding a six-fight winning streak, he was unable to mount any significant offense against Usman's relentless pressure and control.

In his post-fight interview, Usman expressed his relief and determination, stating his intention to climb back to the top of the division and reclaim the welterweight championship. This victory serves as a strong statement that he remains a formidable contender and a significant force in the UFC. The dominant nature of his win against a rising star like Buckley has once again positioned him in the title conversation.
