Borussia Dortmund has booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Mexican side Monterrey. The match, played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, saw Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy emerge as the hero for the German club, netting a crucial first-half brace.

The Bundesliga outfit started the brighter of the two sides, and their early pressure paid off. Karim Adeyemi was the architect of both of Guirassy's goals, setting up the forward for two clinical finishes that gave Dortmund a commanding lead before the half-time whistle.

Monterrey, representing CONCACAF, showed resilience and pushed to get back into the game in the second half. Their efforts were rewarded with a goal that halved the deficit and set up a tense finale. However, Dortmund's defense held firm in the face of late pressure to see out the win.

With this result, Borussia Dortmund advances to the next stage of the prestigious tournament, where they will face a stern test against Spanish giants Real Madrid in the quarter-finals. That eagerly anticipated clash is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 5th, 2025, in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Following a series of matches in the tournament, including a 1-0 win over Ulsan and a 4-3 victory against Mamelodi Sundowns in the group stage, Dortmund's victory over Monterrey continues their successful run in the revamped global competition.
