Description

The funniest part of the Phantom Targets task is that the Pop Trigger is rarely the star of the run. The room is. Bring a sensible supply from the ARC Raiders Items list, then build an encounter where the device has fewer bad directions to roll. In Arc Raiders, that means turning a Shredder, a closed door, and a cramped interior into one reliable damage setup instead of gambling on open-ground throws.

Start With the Arena, Not the Throwable

Medical Research in Stella Montis remains the cleanest route from the information available. Look for the lower room linked to a narrow tunnel or crawl route. You want the Shredder to enter through the main doorway while you retain a separate way out. That split matters because standing in the room with the machine turns a small objective into a messy DPS check, and Pop Triggers are much harder to judge while you're scrambling for cover.

The Setup That Makes Each Throw Count

Draw a living Shredder toward the room at a controlled pace. Don't rush so far ahead that it loses interest, but don't linger beside it either. Once its full body crosses the threshold, close the main door and move through the alternate route. From what I've seen, the most common failure happens before the first throw: players start deploying while the target is still half in the doorway, giving the device a clean escape line into the hall.

Check the tunnel before attracting the Shredder.
Keep the target away from a tight corner when possible.
Throw from behind the tunnel wall rather than the opening itself.
Release one or two Pop Triggers, then check Phantom Targets progress.
Stop spending items as soon as the 50-damage requirement registers.

Loadout Choices and Target Tradeoffs

Six or seven Pop Triggers is a comfortable starting stack for a fresh requirement. Two can be enough after partial progress or an unusually good enclosure, but that leaves little room for a poor bounce, a target that drifts against a wall, or another Raider forcing you to break position. Carry a main weapon, one or two healing items, and protection if available. The weapon is there to handle interruptions and secure an exit, not to turn the Shredder room into a full fight.

Target Best Use Main Risk
Enclosed Shredder Repeatable Pop Trigger damage Bad positioning near a corner
Open Bastion Backup option with space Throws roll away from the target
Scattered ARC units Emergency progress attempt Low consistency and poor control

Why Open Ground Feels Like an RNG Tax

A Bastion looks attractive because it presents a large body, but size doesn't solve the movement problem. On uneven terrain, the device can travel sideways, pass beyond the target, or detonate too far away to add useful damage. A Shredder inside a small room gives walls, floor, target, and doorways more influence over the roll. I could be wrong but, at least in my experience, the enclosure does more for consistency than swapping to a bigger target ever does.

The Mistake Most Guides Skip

Don't treat every throw as an isolated attempt. Watch the first device's path and adjust your release point for the next one. If it repeatedly hits the same wall and dies near the doorway, step farther back or change the entry angle rather than dumping the full stack along that line. Also listen for nearby ARC activity before starting; a perfect setup is worthless if you're forced into a panic retreat halfway through.

Leave on the Right Beat

Progress is based on accumulated Pop Trigger damage, not on finishing the Shredder with the item. Check the objective between small groups, reload only when safe, and leave the Medical Research area once the requirement is complete. Players often turn a finished task into a lost haul by staying for extra loot or trying to squeeze out one more proc. For future preparation, browse ARC Raiders buy BluePrints before your next planned loadout, then make the room do the hard work again.

Pop Trigger bounces getting you nowhere? U4GM shares a cleaner Arc Raiders plan: lure a Shredder into Medical Research, close the door, use the tunnel, and throw in small batches.
