In a groundbreaking announcement, trailblazing model and actress Ellie Goldstein has been confirmed as a contestant for the upcoming series of *Strictly Come Dancing*. The 23-year-old will be the first person with Down's syndrome to compete on the main series of the popular BBC dancing show.

The news was revealed on BBC Breakfast, and Goldstein expressed her excitement, stating, "I'm absolutely over the moon to be joining the cast and pros of Strictly Come Dancing this year. It's a show I've loved watching for so long, and the chance to now be part of it feels like a dream."

Goldstein has a history of breaking barriers in the entertainment and fashion industries. In 2023, she made history as the first model with Down's syndrome to be featured on the cover of British Vogue. Her impressive career also includes campaigns for major brands like Gucci Beauty and Adidas, and she has graced the covers of magazines such as Glamour and Elle. Two years ago, she partnered with Mattel to launch the first-ever Barbie with Down's syndrome.

Beyond her modeling work, Goldstein has also ventured into acting, recently taking on a guest lead role in the CBBC series Malory Towers. As an ambassador for the charity Mencap, she actively works to challenge misconceptions about people with learning disabilities.

Jon Sparkes, the chief executive of Mencap, praised Goldstein's participation in *Strictly Come Dancing*, calling her a "Mencap myth buster." He stated, "Ellie has never been afraid to push boundaries, and this is just another way to show what people with a learning disability can achieve with the right support."

With her characteristic determination and positive outlook, Goldstein is ready to take on the challenge of the ballroom. "I know it's going to be challenging, but I'm ready to do it with the glitter and glamour and make some magic on that dancefloor. Let the Strictly journey begin," she said.

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing is set to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in September.
