Most players hit the Cargo Ship Robbery and follow the prompts like it's a tutorial. I did too, once. Then you realise it's a time sink, and time is money in GTA Online. Bring your own air, not their boat

Fly out to the ship and don't rush the landing. Hover near the bridge and let lock-ons do the boring work. You want the captain gone and the guards around the container lanes thinned out before your boots touch the deck. If you land first, you'll spend the next minute doing that awkward shuffle between cover while your armour melts. Clear the top, then touch down somewhere safe and close to the bridge so you're not sprinting a marathon under fire.



Quick deck work, then let the Skylift do its thing
Once you're on, keep it tight. Hit the bridge terminal, then head straight to the marked containers. Shoot the locks, check the vehicle, move on. It's RNG which container has the target, so don't overthink it. The longer you hang around, the more the game tries to "wake up" the encounter with extra guards and choppers. As soon as you identify the car, let the Skylift pick it up and stop playing hero. The best part of parking your aircraft nearby is what comes next: you can bail off the ship and be back over land in seconds instead of messing about with a boat spawn or swimming like a clown.



Escaping without trashing the payout
Back at the docks, the heat is usually the real threat, not the ship. Cops and Merryweather stack up fast, and every bump in that car chips your final value. My go-to is to get moving immediately and head for cover that breaks line of sight. Train tunnels work. The sewer entrance by the LS River works. Pull in, kill the engine, and wait for the stars to blink out. It's boring, sure, but it's clean, and clean means cash. If you've got time, run the disruption that messes with their air support beforehand. Skipping it can turn the escape into a rocket-fest.
