Barcelona has officially announced that midfielder Pablo Torre will spend the 2024/2025 season on loan at Racing Santander. The move marks a return to his boyhood club, where he first rose to prominence.
Torre, who spent last season on loan at Girona FC, is set for another temporary move away from the Catalan capital to secure regular first-team football. The 21-year-old was part of the historic Girona side that secured a third-place finish in La Liga and qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time. During his spell at Girona, Torre made 29 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing two assists. While he showed flashes of his technical ability, he often found himself used as a substitute under manager Míchel.
The return to Racing Santander is seen as a positive step for the young Spaniard's development. It was at Racing that Torre's exceptional talent first caught the eye of Spain's top clubs, leading to his transfer to Barcelona in 2022 for a fee of around €5 million plus add-ons. In his final season with the Cantabrian club in the third tier, he was instrumental in their promotion to the Segunda División.
Both Barcelona and the player hope that a season with more consistent playing time in a familiar environment will allow him to regain his best form and continue his development. Racing Santander, competing in Spain's second division (LaLiga Hypermotion), will look to build their team around their returning star as they aim for a successful campaign. The loan deal does not include an option to buy, indicating that Barcelona still view Torre as part of their long-term plans.
