The Police Service Commission (PSC) has issued a stern warning against any form of fraud or racketeering in the upcoming recruitment exercise for the Nigeria Police Force. The commission, in a strategic move to ensure a transparent and fair process, has also called for the cooperation of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
The Chairman of the PSC, retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hashimu Salihu Argungu, made the announcement during a courtesy visit to the acting Executive Chairman of the FCC, Hon. Kayode Oladele, in Abuja on Wednesday. The visit comes as the PSC prepares to recruit Cadet ASPs and Inspectors, though a specific date for the exercise has not yet been announced.
DIG Argungu emphasized the PSC's commitment to a recruitment process based on merit and equity, and that any individual found engaging in corrupt practices will be dealt with decisively. "There must be no room for discretion, waivers, or replacements," he stated, adding that such actions undermine the principles of fairness and justice.
The PSC chairman further stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration with the FCC to ensure that the recruitment process adheres to the principles of federal character, taking into consideration gender, local governments, states, and geopolitical zones.
In response, Hon. Kayode Oladele of the FCC described the visit as a demonstration of a shared commitment to constitutional values and national unity. He affirmed the FCC's readiness to support the PSC in monitoring compliance with the federal character principle, believing that an inclusive and diverse police force is crucial for building public confidence and strengthening national security.
While the official application portal and dates for the recruitment have not been released, prospective applicants are advised to be cautious of fraudulent information and to await official announcements from the PSC and the Nigeria Police Force. Past recruitment drives have typically required applicants to meet specific criteria, including:

* Possession of a National Identification Number (NIN).
* Age between 18-25 years.
* Medical, physical, and psychological fitness.
* Specific height and chest measurements (for males).
The PSC has pledged that future recruitment will be widely advertised in national newspapers to ensure all qualified Nigerians have an opportunity to apply.
