Wizards of the Coast has unveiled its latest crossover for the popular trading card game *Magic: The Gathering*, announcing a new Secret Lair "Superdrop" featuring the iconic video game character, Sonic the Hedgehog. The "Secret Lair: The Sonic Superdrop" will introduce three distinct drops, blending the worlds of Sega's beloved franchise with *Magic's* strategic gameplay.
The superdrop is headlined by "Secret Lair x Sonic: Friends & Foes," a collection of seven brand-new, mechanically unique cards. These cards, legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage formats, will bring Sonic and his companions and adversaries to the forefront of the game. Characters featured include Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails, Amy Rose, Knuckles the Echidna, Shadow the Hedgehog, and the nefarious Dr. Eggman.
In addition to the character-focused set, the superdrop will also feature two collections of reprinted cards with fresh, Sonic-themed artwork. "Secret Lair x Sonic: Turbo Gear" will offer a selection of powerful artifacts, reimagined as iconic items from the Sonic universe, such as Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves. The third drop, **"Secret Lair x Sonic: Chasing Adventure,"** will showcase a variety of popular spells adorned with art featuring Sonic and his friends.
The "Secret Lair: The Sonic Superdrop" is scheduled to go on sale on July 14, 2025, exclusively through the official Secret Lair website. The "Friends & Foes" drop will be priced at $39.99 for the rainbow foil version and $29.99 for the non-foil version. The "Turbo Gear" and "Chasing Adventure" drops will each be available for $39.99 in foil and $29.99 in non-foil.
For players who may miss the online sale, a non-foil version of the "Secret Lair x Sonic: Friends & Foes" drop will be available at Wizards Play Network (WPN) game stores starting on August 21, 2025, offering a wider opportunity for fans to acquire these unique cards.
This collaboration continues the trend of *Universes Beyond*, a series that merges *Magic: The Gathering* with various pop culture phenomena, which has previously included crossovers with properties such as *Fortnite*, *Street Fighter*, and *The Lord of the Rings*.
