A British woman has died after a jet ski she was on was involved in a collision with a motorboat off the coast of Manilva in the Costa del Sol on Saturday evening, June 28, 2025. The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Debra Wright, the wife of Chris Wright, the chairman of Ashton Town FC.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:25 PM near Los Toros beach. Emergency services were called to the scene, but tragically, Ms. Wright was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to initial reports, Ms. Wright was a passenger on the jet ski when the collision with the motorboat occurred. The driver of the motorboat, who is said to have been a friend of the victim, was arrested by the Guardia Civil on suspicion of manslaughter. It is also reported that the driver failed a breathalyzer test following the incident.
Tributes have been paid to Ms. Wright, with Ashton Town FC releasing a statement expressing their "deep sadness and heavy heart" at the "tragic death."
