Get the latest on severe weather warnings across Spain. Official alerts are in effect for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and high temperatures in regions including Catalonia and Madrid

Much of Spain is currently under a state of alert due to a volatile mix of severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, intense thunderstorms, and soaring temperatures. National and regional meteorological agencies have issued a flurry of warnings stretching from the northeast to the central plains of the country.

In the northeastern region of Catalonia, particularly around Barcelona, and in parts of Aragon, authorities have issued "Extreme" and "Severe" warnings for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Reports from Saturday indicated significant flooding in some areas, with emergency services responding to numerous incidents. The public is advised to exercise extreme caution, with forecasts predicting substantial rainfall accumulation which could lead to further flash flooding and hazardous conditions.

Meanwhile, a different weather phenomenon is impacting the capital, Madrid, and the surrounding regions. Yellow alerts for high temperatures have been issued for Monday and Tuesday. Residents are urged to take precautions against the heat, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activity during the peak hours of the day.

According to Spain's state meteorological agency, AEMET, a high number of weather warnings are active across the country. The warnings cover a range of hazards, from intense downpours and storms, which may be accompanied by hail, to the significant heatwave in the central and southern parts of the Iberian Peninsula.

Citizens and tourists are strongly advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts from official sources and to follow the guidance of local authorities. Travel plans may be disrupted, and caution is advised on the roads, which may be affected by heavy rain and potential flooding.
