Instagram is officially launching a new feature that allows users to repost public reels and feed posts, a change that has been in testing for some time. This update, announced recently by parent company Meta, gives users a dedicated way to share content they enjoy with their followers, similar to the functionality on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok.
The new repost feature is designed to make it easier for people to share their interests and engage with content created by others. When a user reposts a reel or a post, it will be recommended to their friends and followers in their feeds. Reposted content will also be visible in a new, separate tab on the user's profile, providing a curated collection of all the content they have reshared.
One of the key aspects of this update is that all reposts are credited to the original creator. For content creators, this means their work has the potential to reach a wider audience beyond their direct followers when someone reposts it. Users can also add a note to their repost, which will appear as a thought bubble over the content in the feed.
The introduction of this repost feature comes alongside other new social tools aimed at improving connectivity on the platform, including an optional location-sharing map and a "Friends" tab in the Reels section that highlights public content that friends have interacted with.
