Bayern Munich in Talks with Chelsea for Nkunku Transfer | News

Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku is a target for Bayern Munich, who have opened talks for a transfer. Discover the latest on the French forward's potential return to the Bundesliga and his injury-plagued time at Stamford Bridge.

News has emerged that Bayern Munich has opened talks with Chelsea over a potential transfer for Christopher Nkunku. The French forward is reportedly keen on the move to the Bundesliga, a league where he previously starred for RB Leipzig.

Transfer developments

The transfer comes as a result of shifting priorities for both clubs. For Bayern, Nkunku has re-emerged as a primary target following the collapse of their deal for Nick Woltemade and the impending departure of Kingsley Coman. The German side sees the versatile attacker as an ideal fit to bolster their squad, especially given his ability to play in multiple attacking positions, including as a striker, a winger, and an attacking midfielder.

Chelsea, meanwhile, is looking to offload several players to streamline their squad under manager Enzo Maresca. Nkunku, who has struggled with injuries and inconsistent form since his €60m move to London in 2023, is one of the players reportedly deemed surplus to requirements. The Blues are now willing to accept a much lower fee, in the region of €40-50m, a significant drop from the €70m they demanded in January. Both Nkunku and Chelsea prefer a permanent sale over a loan deal.

Nkunku's Chelsea journey

Christopher Nkunku's time at Chelsea has been plagued by injuries, which have prevented him from consistently showing the form that made him one of the most exciting players in the Bundesliga. He suffered a serious knee injury during a pre-season friendly in 2023, which delayed his official debut for the club. Despite flashes of his talent, including 18 goals in 62 appearances across all competitions, he has failed to secure a regular starting spot.

The 27-year-old's desire for a new chapter and his preference for a return to Germany could see a transfer completed before the deadline, provided the two clubs can finalize an agreement.
