Abuja, Nigeria – June 14, 2025 – The Nigerian government has approved the recruitment of personnel into the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for the year 2025, as part of a larger recruitment drive for four paramilitary services under the Ministry of Interior. However, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), the body responsible for conducting the exercise, has announced that the recruitment process is yet to officially commence.
In a statement released earlier this week, the Secretary to the Board, Maj. Gen. Abdulmalik Jibril (Rtd), confirmed the presidential approval and urged the public to be cautious of fraudulent recruitment announcements circulating online. He emphasized that the board is currently in the process of finalizing the modalities for the recruitment exercise.
"While we have received the much-anticipated approval from Mr. President to recruit, there are several internal processes we must conclude before we open the application portal," said Maj. Gen. Jibril. "We are working diligently to ensure a smooth and transparent process."
The board has explicitly warned job seekers against falling prey to scammers who are taking advantage of the eagerly awaited recruitment to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians. Several websites and social media accounts have emerged, falsely claiming to be official portals for the NIS recruitment and demanding payment for application forms.
The Nigeria Immigration Service has also issued a separate statement on its official website, **immigration.gov.ng**, cautioning the public against a fake recruitment portal with the address "https://www.google.com/search?q=niscareer.com.ng." The fraudulent website has announced a fictitious application timeline, from May 26th to June 15th, 2025, and is soliciting payments from applicants.
The NIS and the CDCFIB have reiterated that the entire recruitment exercise will be free of charge and all official announcements regarding the commencement of the application process will be made through national newspapers and on their official websites:
Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS): immigration.gov.ng
Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB): cdcfib.gov.ng
Aspiring candidates are strongly advised to regularly check these official channels for authentic updates and to disregard any information from unofficial sources. The government has assured that the final recruitment process will be merit-based and transparent. Further details on the application guidelines, required qualifications, and the official timeline are expected to be released in due course.
