Chelsea Advances in FIFA Club World Cup with Dominant Win Over Espérance de Tunis

Chelsea FC secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Tunisian side Espérance Sportive de Tunis in their latest FIFA Club World Cup group stage match on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. The win ensures the London club's progression to the knockout stages of the newly expanded 32-team tournament.

Playing at Lincoln Financial Field, Chelsea controlled the proceedings and broke the deadlock late in the first half. Defender Tosin Adarabioyo opened the scoring with a header in the third minute of stoppage time, shortly followed by a goal from new signing Liam Delap, who found the net just before the half-time whistle.

The second half saw Chelsea maintain their dominance, with substitute Tyrique George sealing the victory with a well-taken strike in the dying moments of the match. The result sees Chelsea advance from their group and sets up a forthcoming knockout tie.

This victory continues Chelsea's journey in the revamped FIFA Club World Cup, a tournament they last won in its previous format.

Flashback to Historic 2021 Triumph

Prior to the current tournament, Chelsea's last appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup culminated in a historic victory on February 12, 2022, when they defeated Brazilian giants Palmeiras 2-1 in a tense final in Abu Dhabi.

In that memorable encounter, Romelu Lukaku gave Chelsea the lead with a powerful header in the second half. Palmeiras fought back, equalizing through a Raphael Veiga penalty, sending the tightly contested final into extra time.

The decisive moment came late in extra time when a penalty was awarded to Chelsea for a handball. Kai Havertz, the hero of their UEFA Champions League final victory, stepped up and coolly converted the spot-kick in the 117th minute to clinch the title for the Blues for the very first time. The dramatic win cemented Chelsea's status as world champions, completing their collection of major international trophies.
