Lagosians are set to head to the polls tomorrow, Saturday, July 12, 2025, to elect their local government chairmen and councillors across the state's 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has affirmed its preparedness for the exercise, which will see voters cast their ballots to determine the leadership at the grassroots level.

In a bid to ensure a secure and orderly election, the Lagos State Police Command has announced a restriction of movement. The initial plan for a 12-hour restriction has been adjusted, with movement now restricted from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on election day. The police have assured the public of adequate security measures and a significant deployment of personnel to maintain peace throughout the electoral process.

The build-up to the election has not been without some political friction. Reports indicate that some opposition parties have declined to sign a peace accord, citing disputes over candidate registration.

LASIEC has been actively encouraging citizen participation, emphasizing the crucial role of local governments in the state's governance framework. The commission has made the election timetable and other relevant information available on its official website, detailing the timeline of activities leading up to Saturday's vote.

This election follows the 2023 general elections, which saw a dynamic and closely watched contest for the presidential and gubernatorial positions in the state. As residents prepare to vote, the focus now shifts to the leadership that will directly impact their local communities for the next electoral cycle. All eligible voters are encouraged to turn out and exercise their civic duty peacefully.
